RTID Has Heard From You!

The last few months have been busy and exciting for those of us involved with regional transportation. As you know, there are many roads and bridges across our region that need improvements. However, with limited funding and RTID’s principle to keep the investment plan affordable, it means we will have to set priorities on which road and bridge improvements we can undertake.

That’s why we invited you to share your ideas about where we should make investments. Our public comment results show that a strong majority of you are concerned about transportation and traffic above all other issues, and that you support making investments in our roads and bridges to make them safer and less congested.

Just going by the numbers, we’ve gotten a great response:

  • 590 people at our Roads & Transit open houses
  • 478 responses to our online survey
  • 257 e-mails sent to RTID
  • 172 written comments submitted at our open houses.

We look forward to reviewing your comments as we refine the investment plan to address the urgent safety, congestion and mobility problems we face today.

Sincerely,

Regional Transportation Investment District

November 2006 Update

Public Comments—Thank You!

During the past five months, RTID has been working across the Snohomish, Pierce and King county region to tell people about the Blueprint for Progress and to get your ideas about where road investments should be made.

We held Roads & Transit open houses with Sound Transit that nearly 600 citizens attended, and we received 170 written comments at those open houses. RTID and Sound Transit have made dozens of joint presentations to organizations, governments and civic groups across the region. We also launched an online survey that more than 470 people used to share their feedback.

The results are really valuable. A strong majority supports investments that address our most unsafe and congested roads and bridges, and help keep people and goods moving across the region.

What Happens Next

RTID Executive Committee members will now work to refine the Blueprint for Progress based on the financial and cost updates, the roads and transit sequencing options and public input. RTID’s goal is to address urgent safety and congestion problems while keeping the investment package affordable for the region’s voters.

RTID will develop its revised package in January 2007. This draft package will be circulated for additional public comment and review including technical and financial analysis as well as integration with the Sound Transit 2 draft proposal.

Joint RTID and Sound Transit Board Meeting

RTID and Sound Transit will hold another joint board meeting on December 7, 2006 . It will be held at Union Station from 9:30-11:00 AM . The board will hear updates on Sound Transit 2 and RTID package development; describe joint sequencing and scheduling work; and discussing key timelines and milestones for the joint effort. The meeting is open to the public, and will include a public comment period.
